  • Yes. While I provide extensive pediatric services, there can be occasions that a child will need healthcare outside of my capacity. I highly recommend families have health insurance to cover these unexpected costs such as the emergency room, hospitalizations or referrals to specialists.

  • No, I do not participate in any insurance plan or Medicaid. The membership model enables me to provide more personalized pediatric care to better serve patients.

I am considered an out-of-network provider on most health plans. Your insurance company may reimburse you for out-of-network services, but this varies widely with each insurance plan. If you have any questions about out-of-network reimbursement, contact your individual insurance representative for additional information.

If needed, I can provide an invoice for medical care, vaccinations and prescriptions that you can submit to your insurance company.

  • Long story short: To remove all barriers between me and my patients to take care of kids better. For long story, see my physician collaborator, Dr. Carissa Stanton’s blog post on this matter, My Return to the Doctor-Patient Relationship. My practice is going back to the simpler and better ways of direct provider and patient relationship without the barriers in between.

Of note: Wellness Pediatrics KC is not able to provide services for patients who are Medicare beneficiaries.

  • Since I provide direct access 24/7, there are no traditionally set hours. I will be available for all reasons from 8 am - 6 pm Monday - Friday. Outside of those “regular business hours”, I will answer urgent/emergent concerns at anytime and do in-person urgent visits for an additional fee.

  • It is difficult to know what to do at times, I’m a parent too, I completely understand. I am a vaccine friendly provider, meaning, I will discuss the benefits and risks. You know what is best for your child and I respect the informed decision you make. My families who want vaccines get them through their health department.

  • Membership allows me to provide members with personalized care and direct access to me. You will have 24/7 access to me via text, phone and video if needed. Many sick visits can be handled via phone/video. Families receive many benefits with direct access to their provider: convenience, better care by a provider who knows your child, ability to monitor closely to allow the body to heal itself before jumping to medications, and can decrease urgent care visits. It is a much more comprehensive level of care than other clinics are able to provide. Plus, many area nurse lines and clinics are beginning to charge for calls, therefore some are having to pay for this service regardless. Additionally, the fixed price allows members to budget their health care finances without worrying about unexpected medical costs.

  • This is another way to improve quality of care. Paying the provider directly saves resources I can then use to care for patients. You get what you pay for applies here: insurance "covers" 10 minutes of a doctor's time, whereas my well visits are about 1 hour in length.

It also is more transparent than going through a 3rd party payer. What I do for your child will be discussed and decided upon with the family before the service is rendered. Families will always know the exact fee before it is done, not after you get a bill or explanation of benefits in the mail. Visits are able to be associated with insurance billing codes, and can be eligible to use HSA funds and/or out-of-network reimbursements from insurance. Of course consult with your individual policy for details.

  • Congratulations on the upcoming addition to your family! I would love to meet you. Please contact me and I will schedule a free consultation time to meet you and discuss the ways I can serve your newest family member. After delivery, we’ll schedule your first newborn home visit.

  • No, I do not. I will help coordinate any specialty or hospital care that’s needed for your child. Children admitted to the hospital are typically under the care of a pediatric hospitalist. After discharge, I will continue the course of care for your child.

  • No problem! One of the benefits of being a member is that you contact me directly! Once I determine the best course of care, I may call in a prescription, locate the nearest urgent care or ER, and even discuss your child’s medical history with a local provider if necessary.

  • I will not be able to see patients who are not in my membership.

  • The state of Missouri requires that I have a collaborating physician, my collaborating physician is Carissa Stanton, MD of Mindful Pediatrics KC .
